World FTD Awareness Week – September 21-27, 2025

September 21, 2025

September 21-27, 2025 is World FTD Awareness Week.  This year World FTD Awareness Week asks the world: “What If It’s FTD?” Aiming to raise awareness of the presenting symptoms of FTD and to contrast the disease to other forms of dementia, particularly Alzheimer’s disease, World FTD Awareness Week will educate the public about how FTD first appears (changes in behaviour, personality and language, not memory) and the distinct challenges associated with FTD (younger age of onset, greater carer burden, and impact for families when FTD is transmitted genetically).

Closer to home, Governor Maura Healy recognized September 21-27 as Frontotemporal Dementia Awareness Week in Massachusetts with a proclamation. The Massachusetts House and Senate also recognized Frontotemporal Degeneration Awareness Week with a resolution.  Thanks to Dawn O’Gara, AFTD Ambassador for MA, for her important advocacy resulting in this recognition of FTD.
